Ruud Spil (1961) studied at the Ruudt Wackers Academy and the Amsterdam College for fine art. There he graduated to be a teacher in drawing and painting..
He is an enthusiastic painter of mainly cows and sometimes other animals like sheep, goats and horses. His favourite places to work are stables, out in the meadow and at cattle markets.

Particularly in a stable one can observe cows very close and precise. He draws his impressions with charcoal on board or paper. In his studio he tranfers his drawings to oil paintings on wood or canvas.

Spil records properties of cowbreed in paint but also the the looks of individual animals and their behaviour. This makes the portraits very personal.
